Connecting / Synthesizing / Transforming

The rebranding of Belleville, New Jersey was a project that utilized strategic design and analytical thinking to address a problem only design could solve. Created from portions of its now next door neighbor Bloomfield, This once well known railroad town is now a thriving diverse populous. However there is a lack of representation, marketing and advertising outside of the community. In order to address this problem using design, research from socioeconomic data, personal perspectives gathered from interviewing the community as well as a look into the landscape and environment was needed in order to pin point the root of the issue and gain vital information that would help being the process of developing a design solution. Revamping the brand identity, giving it a solid voice and tone that speaks to the entire community as a whole, as well as speaking to any outside viewer in such a way that builds an emotional connection. This solution included marketing which will promote and endorse local business in a more effective and positive light. The solution promotes the ideals of the community working together as one by placing and emphasis on being one cohesive unit.

Solving Problems

Producing assets that can not only be felt on a psychological level but also on a physical level that the audience can see, hear, smell and or touch leaves a lasting impression. When watching anything on television we are taking in and processing information through not just the spoken word or subtitles but also through the images and especially the colors that are associated with to those images and they generation emotions in our mind. Effective commercials work so well because they tell a story that the viewer can relate to. The music and images tell a story that the viewer can see themselves living through or have lived through. Being relatable and generating a connection through that relatability creates a relationship between the brand and the target audience. The T-shirt and sweater design further promote and elevate the brand when a consumer purchase these items and wears the items in public it is free advertising. Other people will see the shirt and inquire about the significance of the logo thus generating a buzz. The care decal and the stickers are also a good way to advertise for free. When the local community members travel wearing any of these items they are essential advertising and promoting the brand. Currently the Belleville brand has no such representation. By effectively researching the community and implementing all the elements and ideals into the design concept and creating these assets the initial problem of lack of representation and marketing is solved.

The color choices effectively work together to generate and evoke a feeling of calmness, Joy, Togetherness and Love. The base of the beloved tree is in the shape of the state of New Jersey pays homage to the state in which the town is located. The shape of the tree and the color combination make the concept stand out in comparison against its competition. Utilizing Cinemagraph

Cinemagraph Pro really peaked my interest in Cinemagraph. Cassandra King (2018) states "Cinemagraphs are dazzling. They capture and hold our attention with their alluring quality. Not quite a photo, not quite a video, they trick the mind into thinking it’s seeing something magical." I had seen them before being shared on social media but had no clue what they were called. I enjoyed combining my graphic design skills and creating a Cinemagraph as an ad campaign for one of our assignments. It is such a quick and easy way to share cool content pertaining to a brand or concept design.
